for riding a bicycle without a' light. Roy Reginald Roberts was fined 10s and costs for riding without a light in Bealey avenue. Albert H. G. Smith was similarly charged, and was fined 10s and costs. Percy Stanley Nicholls, charged with leaving a motor-car without lights at Linwood, wag fined 10s arid cost. . John Arnold, charged with carrying a passenger on a motor-cycle, was fined 5s and costs.

F. Bickerton was charged with failing to grub gorse. The ranger said the work of cutting the goree had been commenced. The case was adjourned till November Bth. DISMISSED. Mr Cuningfcam, on .behalf of Emily O'Neill, asked for a variation of a maintenance order for_ 2s' a week made against Benjamin O'Neill at Ashburton. The application was dismissed.

THEFT OF POSTAL PACKET. Alex. Charles Mitchell was charged with stealing a postal packet addressed to Strange and Co. Mr Cassidy appeared for accused, who pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed.
