SHIPPING NOTES.

The barque Louisa Craig, owned by Messrs G. 11. Scales, Ltd., of Wellington, left San Francisco on* September 19th for Lyttelton, with a cargo consisting of benzine, coal oil, distillate, and motor spirit. Ten days previously the American barque Golden Gat-o had cleared from San Francisco harbour with a similar cargo for Auckland. Both vessels are looked upon as exceptionally smart sailers. The Gclden Gate holds the record for 1 the passage from Wellington to San Fran- I cisco, whilst the Louisa Craig, on her recent run from Auckland to the American port, put up a record for the voyage from Auckland to tho Sandwich Islands. An interesting race i=! therefore looked forward to, and Nov,- Zealand shipping men will keenly await tho arrival at Auckland or Lyttelton of one j or other of the vessels.

The I'urakina is expcctcd back at Lvttelton to-morrow from Dunedin for Homeward loading, and will leave on Saturday for Wellington.
