AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

Tho executive of the Canterbury Automobile Association met laet night. Present: Messrs A. S. Clarkson (chairman), A. H. Bourn, "VV. ID. Mills, P. R. Climie. C. G. McKcllar, P. D. Kestevcn, J. S. Hrfwlces, and F. W. Johnston, and Captain H. McLean.

A letter was received from the Superintendent of Policc, in reply to the A-ssocia-tionV letter complaining o! tho stealing of elcctric bulbs from tho headlights of care, stating that he had instructed tho constables on beat to keep a sharp look-out to endeavour to detect tho thieves.

Mr C. M. Malfroy, of Hokitika. wrote suggesting that tho Association take in tho Westland district with a branch at Hokitika. There were moro private cars at Hokitika than in any other part of tho Woat Coast. Quite a* lot of motorists .went to Hokitika on tour, and perhaps something could bo done in the way of backing lip the Tourist Department in their efforts to get the South Westland rivers bridged with motor bridges. If this were done, thero would be- a splendid tour for Canterbury motorist* to make, viz., Icavo Christchurch for Springfield, take train to Arthur'* Pass, motor to Otira, thence to Hokitika by the old Christchurch road, via Ivawhatea. (a beautiful bush road), or via Knmara to Hokitika. and from there- to the Lakes Kanieii and Mahinapua. and on to tho Franz Joseph Glacier. Tho return journey could be made by the Buller Gorge to Nelson and down the East Coast.

Upon the motion of Mr Climie. it was decided to favourably entertain tho idea of bringing- in the West Coast as a district branch.

Mr Climie suggested •tho bringing in also of Kelson and Marlborough. The chairman said that was the ultimate idea.

Tlio chairman .suggested that members travelling to these districts should interview the local committees ivith a view to amalgamating: the districts with Canterbury. Members agreed with tho suggestion.

The following wore elected members of the Association:—E. W. Pidgeon. T._ G. "Williamson, W. Kfrr. G. A. Morris. T. A. Phillips. F. Matthews. R. Morten. J. McGarth. W. Thomson. R. Francis. C. A.
