FIRES.
A-fc 1.20 p.m. on Saturday the Fire Brigade received a call from the alarm at the corner of Carlton I street and Exeter street, Merivale, and tho engine "was out there in quick time. There it "was found that the fire was at the corner of Rossall street and Holmwood road, just outside the Fire Board's boundary, and in the Wroxton district, so t£® Brigade came back.. Fortunately it was only a wash-house ablaze. The Brigade received a call to St. Albans yesterday, about noon, to cope with a'fire in a macrocarpa hedge. The blaze was very quickly extinguished, and practically no damage was done. (FBISS ASSOCIATION TZLZGBAIC.) DARGAVILLE, October 21. Between seven and eight o'clock last night, a destructive fird at Tangowahine. Northern AVairoa, totally destroyed Gibbons, Ltd.'s sawmills. At first the township and extensive stocks of timber were in danger, but the northwest wind kept the fire in the direction of the river. It was impossible to save the milling plant.
