EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

♦ , A special meeting of the Canterbury Educational Institute was . held on Saturday. There was a good attendance, Mr N. Seay in the chair, with Mr A. F. Barrell as secretary. Mr Seay congratulated Mr T. S. Foster on his election to the Council of Education. It was a tribute not only to the 'work he had done of late years, but in the years gone by. The meeting discussed the question of remits for the annual conference. A number of remits, including one in regard to the alteration of the grade of a school, preventing the reduction of • }l teacher's salary by such alteration, unless he had refused to accept a transfer, were sent forward. A remit that all scholarships in primary schools be abolished, and tne money so saved be spent in paying the boarding expenses of the foremost scholars, was xmanimonsly adopted. The question was brought up by Wellington of the payment of retired, teachers drawing superannuation, and drawing salary up to £300 in addition. The chairman stated a number of teachers drawing superannuation had, owing to the war, re-entered the service. A member suggested that the superanuation in such cases should lapse during the period of teaching. The remit was sent forward. It was resolved to support the Wanganui, Taranaki, and Nelson remits that a staff of relieving teachers be paid a definite salary. Lose no time in getting "'NAZCI*.''
