CARD TOURNAMENT. The result of the second night's play in the Christcliurch United Friendly Societies' Card Ascociation's tournament were as follows:—Lily of Richmond 20 v. Anchor A 19, City of ChristchurcU 10 v. Thistle of the Forest 112, Ivy of Linwood 18 v. Star of Linwood 1", Mistletoe 19 v. Anchor B 14, Washington 25 v. Star of St. Alb&ns 11, Queen's Own 23 v. Oak of Sydenham 15. Y.M.C.A. CONCERT. The Y.M.C.A. boarders gave an "at home" concert in their building on Saturday night. Items were contributed by Messrs E. Kelly, C. H. Newton. J. Down. R. Foster, Read, E. Lockwood, F. McDonald, McCullough, R. ! Baff, E. Davis, McDowell, and Pannett. Dur. iing the supper interval Mr Brownell read letters received from members of the Y.M.C.A now on active service, and alsq ; gave a <k-9cription of the work of the nurses at the front. LINWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the Linwood School Committee meeting those present were:—Messrs W. 11. Denton (chairman). R. Carter, W. J. Jenkin. G. Gundry, K. Ellis. D. Coulter, G. Phillips, and H. F. Herbert. The Board of Education placed £32 l~s 3d to the committee's credit. The headmaot<?r (Mr F. T. Evans) reported the average attendance to be COS, and the roll number 648. The pupils were still contributing tn the Red Cross Fund, and 160 handkerchiefs. 54 pillowcases. 30 bags, and 6 facecloths had been forwarded to the Lady Liverpool Depot by Miss Wells, on behalf of the senior girls. LINWOOD—DALLIXGtOX SOLDIERSAID. At the Rolieston street Hall a most enjoyable concert was held in aid o£ the of the Linwcod-Dallington Soldiers' Aid. Amongst the items which were very much appreciated by the audience were recitations by Mrs Temple, Miss Dorothy Rutland, and Master Hunt; songs by Mrs McGiliivray, Mis 3 Rawlinson, Mrs Pearoe, Mr Greg W. Russell, and Mr Temple; a viola solo by Mr Cookson; solos, duets and quartets were given by Mrs Logie, Mrs Gillivray, Mr Mitchell, and Mr McLean, of the St. Andrew's party: pianoforte solos were also given by Mrs Cookson and Miss Laeceiles. At the conclusion of the programme, the chairman, Mr Jenkin, spoke briefly on the work of the "Aid."
