PRISONERS OF WAR.

WHAT SHOULT> BE SENT TO . TURKEY. The Hon. James Allen. Minister of Defence, has sent the following Toply to an enquiry for full particulars as to tho sending of parcels to prisoners of war in Turkey:—"Parcels may bo forwarded post free, and addressed to the prisoners of war, caro of tho International Red Cross Committee, Geneva. Rank, full name, number, and ' regiment of prisoner of war should be elcarly stated, and tlic address written on both sides of the parcel. On no account must any note or other written matter be placed inside the parcel. Parcelsycannot be acccpted unless thev aro very strongly packed. Ordinary thin cardboard boxes, such as thoeboses, and thin wooden boxes, arc not to bo used, nor docs a single sheet of j ordinary brown paper afford sufficient ] protection. It Is suggested by the Prisoners of "War Bureau that the fol— 1 lowing packings should be used: —(a) ] Tin boxes, such as used for packing bis- ■ cuits; (b) strong wooden boxes; (c) several folds of stout packing paper. < The parcel should be packed in such a i way as not to impede examination by < the censors. The name and address of the sender must bo shown on all parcels for prisoners of "war. Foodstuffs of I a perishablo nature and matches must not be sent. On no account are news- * papers to be used for wrapping up par- < eels, nor must newspaper cuttings be i enclosed with parcels. The Red Cross 1 Society suggests that the following < articles are likely to prove most useful rto prisoners:—Biscuits, cheese, choco- * late, coffee and milk, cocoa and milk, 1 dried fruit, prepared oats, sugar, light 1 underclothing, packets of cards and • games, and tobacco."
