Among the men v:lv> left Gore for Trentliam on Thursday morning was Private AV. J. Domigan, eldest sen of Jlajor and Mrs Domigan. of Gore. Major Domigan is alreadv ar the front, his second son. who joined the Main Expeditionary Force, is reported missing, and the third son is on the permanent staff at Crcymouth.
Mr W. Gopeland. of Dee street. Tnvercargill. has received word that his eklest brother. Private YV. Copeland. of the Australian Imperial Forces, has been killed i n action. Private Copeland left Victoria with the First Expeditionary Force, and was among the first to land at Gallipnli. He had also seen service in South Africa, having bee n right through the Boer War with, oot receiving a scratch.
Miss Mary Margaret Hickey (Sister Domitille. of the Convent, Lower High street), who has received notice that slie has passed the examination for M.A. ■ with first class honours in History, received her primarv education in the public school at Opunake, Taranaki, xrhcre she also served as pupil teacher. For the last four years she has been a student at Canterbury College, and last year, besides graduating 8.A., she was "awarded the senior scholarship of the University in History.
Some of the commercial travellers who are staying at the Clarendon Hotel met tho manager, Mr Tom Beveridge, and presented him with a handsome suit case as a mark of appreciation of the courtesy he has always extended to them, both during his" managership of tho Grand Hotel in Wellington and the Clarendon in this city. Mr* Henry William Heath, an old resident ef Auckland, died on Tuesday, MWT74 years. Very many vears ago Xt Heath was manager of the North Shore Ferry Company. Later lie retired from that position and started as a land and estate agent. Subsequently he was appointed the first agent ,in Auckland for the London and Lancashire Insurance Company. Somo , rears ago tf r Heath went to Chico in California, where he was engaged' in business. Returning to Auckland •bout 12 years ago. he had resided there ever since. Mr Heath was one of the .oldest members of. the Auckland Bow]- .£ ing Club.
