An official communique states: "We expelled the remnant of the German forces from the crater eastward of Neuville St. Vaast." The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, January 26 (4.55 p.m.). Artillery activity in the sector of Neuville St. Vaast in the course of the night enabled the French to carry out an attack, driving the Germans out of •the crater which they occupied as the result of previous explosions. South of Ohaulnes the French batteries destroyed an enemy observation post. Chaulnes is an important railway junction north of Roye and east by south of Amiens.
