HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. There \ysre present:—Messrs F. • Horreil (chairman), Mesdames Green, Milsom, and Christie, the Hon. R. Moore, M.L.C., I. Andrew, S. Andrew, T. D. Boag, O. Bradley, \V. H. Cooper, J. Davison, It. Evans, J. IX Hall, W. P. Spencer, H. B. Sorcnsen, W. W. Tanner, and H. J. Otley. • The report of the Hospital Committee stated that arrangements had been completed with the Rechabite Society, whereby members of that Order would be admitted to hospital at half rates on a certificate being given by the secretary guaranteeing payment of fees. During the past month twelve returned soldiers had been treated in hospital, the average stay being twenty days. Besides these, forty had been treated as" out-patients. The Public Health Committee stated that the inspectors during the month enquired into 18 cases of scarlct fever, 9 of diphtheria, 2 of enteric fever 18 of tuberculosis, and - of puerperal septicemia. There were -64 other inspections or enquiries made. The patients in Bottle Lake Hospital numbered 3o on the 18th inst. The Superintendent of Police wrote that" he had made arrangements for the road to Pottle Lake to be patrolled in the evenings. The work of renovating the inside and outside of the buildings at the Consumption Sanatorium had been completed by the Board's staff at a cost! of £26 <. The committee had given full consideration to a series of complaints rereived from an es-patient in Bottle Lake Hospital, and had written to the complainant that the charges preferred were quite contrary to statements made by the matron and a number of expatients. With regard to lighting the road from the tram terminus to the Sanatorium, it had been decided to accept the offer of the Public Works Department. to erect the line and supply six 100 Watt lamps for £56. and to maintain the lamps and supply the necessary power for £12 12$ per annum. The report was adopted. The clause regarding the complaints having been considered in committee, it was resolved to await the report of an enquiry by Dr. Valintine.
