1 At 7.02 a.m. yesterday the Fire BriI gado was called to 278 Healey avenue j to a six-roorued cottage, owned by Miss | Ada Harrison, and occupied by Mr J. King, as a fire had broken out in tho scullery through tho explosion of a kerosene lamp. Very little damage was done. The building was insured for £-300 in the State Fire Insurance Office, and tho contents for a total of £']50 in the same office. A fire, attended with rather serious loss, happened at Brootnfield on Sunday evening, when a wooLshed, the property of Mr W. H. Hale, was burned down. Mr Hale was in the middle of shearing, and the shed was filled with sheep ready to commence operations the following morning. One of the shearers, on having a look around on CMinday evening, found flames issuing from the wool portion of tho building; the flames spread rapidly, and very little was saved. Mr Hale, besides* losing the building, had ten bales of wool, 70 ewes, a new binder, grass mower, and rako, wool press, and new scales, seeds and stack covers, etc., destroyed. Tho building, which was insured tor £150, was covered in the Victoria Office. Tt is roughly estimated that the loss will total about £450, as tho wool, etc., was, uninsured. |
