The monthly meeting of the Waipars County Councij was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs R. Evans (chairman), G. Rutherford. W. W. Mcßae. T. K. L. Roberts. N. D. Campbell, and H. H. Holland. Correspondence was received from "Mr A. Black, asking for something to bo done to the Quarry road. The matter was left in the hands of Mr Holland, to report- at the next meeting. Mr J. Brown, director of Fields division, Department of Agriculture, wrote stating that the samples of lime had not yet been analysed. Matson wrote, call- j ing the Council's attention to the l're- j quency of stock straying on the Hors- j icv Downs road. 'ihe ranger W3s in* , structed to .summon everyone whose stock wag on the loads. "Mr Webb waited on the Council to put before the members the claims of the Canterbury Patriotic Committee. The Council iva'j of opinion that a county fund should be started, and that the members do all in their power to further tbo scheme. It was resolved to ask the Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board to pay the subsidy to the doctor at Waiknri, and also to intimate that the time had arrived when the Boartf should support n hospital in the county. Messrs Davie, •Sharp, Coward, and McGowan waited on the Council to ask that Senley's ■direct road be completed. The Council decided to inspect the road and prepare an estimate before consenting. It was resolved that the Council give all the assistance possible in opening up the lime deposits in the district. It was unanimously decided to declare the Waipara £ounty a motor registration area. AKA.RO A. The monthly meeting of the Akaroa County Council was .held in Duvauchellc on Saturday Instf Messrs J. D. Bruce (chairman;, K." Hav, C. B. Thackor, F. W. William's, J. R. Thacker, and T. Conway being present. A motion of condolence with the chairman and Mr Conway, both of whom have relatives reported as missing at tho front, was passed. The Pigeon Bay Road Board's application for a ,C for £ subsidy towards the cost of erecting a bridge in Holmes Bay, was granted; payment of the grant to bo deferred for 12 months or until tho Council's financial position is in a better state. Tho chairman reported that the ratepayers at a public meeting had decided to request the Council to act as a local committee to raise money for the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. The question of making :i grant out of the county funds was .discussed and approved. It was also decided to ask the Road Boards in the county ts supplement thw grant from the Council. The Wairewa County chairman wroto suggesting that tho Council should Convene a meeting of Penipsula local bodies to discuss a proposal to hold a carnival cither at Little River or Duvauchelle, in aid of the fund. It was decided to accede to the request. _ The chairman and clerk were authorised-to open an account at tho Bank for moneys already received op. behalf of | the fund. A circular l from the Board [of Agriculture regarding a movement ; t-o encourage school children to collect 1 grass seed on the roads was considered, [ and permission given' children to har- [ vest cocksfoot on the county roads. The chairman reported having made arrangements for the supply- of materials to complete tho Akaroa boat slip. The I crusher engineer reported having completed crushing tho Summit road metal durintr the month. Tho road was now | metalled from the hill top to Long Bay road.
