BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday afternoon. Picsent—Messrs J. C. Adams lehairman), L. B. Wood, C. H. Opie, W. Brock, George Ronnie, B. D. A eland, 0. J. Smith, W. H. Montgomery, T. W. Adams, H.-Boyd, T. Hushes, Bishop Julius, and Dean Harper.

Leave of absence was granted -Mr S Hurst Seagor.

On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Bishop Julius, it was decided to oxtend the sympathy of tho Board to Miss M. V. Gibson. an t | tho members of the family in their recent t>cr reavement. .

Mr Charles Overton wrote thanking the Board for its resolution of condo lcr.ro.

The Registrar of the University of Xew Zealand wrote asking lor information regarding the classes held in Christchurch in connexion with the Workers' Educational Association for .Mr Mansbridge. general secretary of the Workers' Educational Association. The reply 1 sent stated that there are two classes ' in economics—one consisting of '17 members fall luenl, with an average attendance of i! 4 ; and the other consisting of 23 men and 1 woman, with an avorago attendance of 18. There is one class in psychology, consisting of I t men and f> women, with an average attendance of 17. The reply was approved. Tho College Committee reported that the resignation of Miss Ethel M. Burns, teacher ot cooking and needlework at tho Girls' High School, bo accepted trith regret, as from the 31st December, 191-5, on account of illhealth. That a number of consequential alterations to College regulations as recommended by tho Professorial Board, be approved. That the propofiats of tho sub-coniniittee_, appointed to consider the question of providing free tuition and help to those children whoso fathers or brothers have been killed or totally disabled in the present war, be approved. It "was reported that tho committer had renewed for a further period of twelve months tho agreement ■with Mr A. J. Collins to rent, with rirrbt of purchase, the cottage in Gloucester street, at present occupied by the caretaker of the Girls' High School. The report was agreed to. The Museum and Library Committer reported that the report of tho subcommittee appointed hy the Professorial Board, dealing with the maunfactnre of certain munition* of war. he aonroved. and the information contained therein forwarder! to the Minister in charge of munitions. The rppor.t was adopted.
