PRIVATE B. HUNT.
Private Bertie Hunt (Auckland Battalion, died from wound.) was tho third son of Mrs G. Clark of Arch Hill, Auckland, and of the lato Mr Richard Hunt, ot Waihi. He left with the Second Reinforcements with the infantry, and wa s transferred to the Engineers in Egypt. Ho was 25 years of age. The, official, intimation received by his mother was that he had died on Juno iJlth from wounds received on May 10th. Nothing further couid be learned as to his whereabouts, but he was stated to be progressing favourably. Now, however, a letter comes to hand from Abassia Military Hospital, Alexandria, written on May 16th. iv which Private Hunt says:—"l was wounded to-day fortnight in .in attack on a hill on Gallipoli. It was a hard try, and a regular death-trap to get through. After a few hours' fighting, we succeeded in taking it. I received a shot in tho thigh, causing a large wound and compound fracture. There is n<> need to worry about' inc. as although I am rather ill. lam going on well. It was a terrible sight seeing tho wounded falling and dyins alongside of you, and expecting tho Turks down on you any minute."
