SEVERAL VESSELS SUNK. RIVER PLATE TRADER. LONDON. May 2. A submarine sank the British steamor Edwaie, Homeward bound from tho River Plate. The crew landed at tho Scillies. A submarine torpedoed tho French steamer Europe near Bishop's Rock. The crew were saved. A submarine also torpedoed the steamer Fulgent, near tho Skelligs, most of whoso crew are missing, and the American steamer Gulflight, south of tho Scillies. (Received May 3rd. 0.20 p.m.) -LONDON, May 3. A trawler landed nino of. tho Fulgont's survivors and tho body of tho captain, who had been shot. Tho second boat, with tho balance of the crew, i s missing. Tho American steamer Gulflight, which was bound from Port Arthur (Texas) to Rouen, was towed into tho Sound, awaiting Falmouth tugs. Ono of th 0 cr.ew wa s drowned and ono is missing. The captain's body was landed at St. Mary's, in thp Scilly Islands, with the remainder of the crew. There are two French steamers bearing the nam. Europe, in "Uoyd's Register." One is a twin-screw vessel of -'7ot> tons gross register, owned by the Chargeurs Reunis. of Havre, and the other an old vessel of _0_« ton* gross register, owned by P* Castauio, ot The Fulgent was a collier of 20Ct~* tons gross register, built in 11H0, and owned by .1. Wcstoll, of Sunderland. Tho Gulflight was un American steamship of 5500 tons gross register, 392 feet in length, and olft oin beam, sp-r-ciallv built for carrying oil in bulk. She had a carrying capacity of 2,200,000 gallons. The Gulflight was a new steamer, launched on August Sth. 1014. She was built by the New York -Shipbuilding Company at Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A.. for the Gulf Refining Company of Port Arthur, Texas, for the T?xas oil trade.
