CASUALTIES.

INQUEST. Tho Coroner (Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.), yesterday continued tho hearing of tho adjourned inquest upon the death of William Bennett, a bachelor, 70 years of age, who died in the Hospital on Saturday night. Deceased resided at Lincoln, and was admitted on April 27th, suffering from tho effects of a gun-shot wound. Charles T. Restall, Lincoln, detailed having -found deceased lying on the ground, suffering from what witness at first took to be a cut throat, but which afterwards was found to be a gun wound. Deceased, when questioned, said he did it because he was suffering from blood-poisoning, but added that he was tired of life, and wished ho had killed himself. Constable Edwards, stationed at Lincoln, said that deceased complained, after, the shooting, that he had been suffering: from very bad health, so he though would "do away with himself. The deed was done with a revolver, one shot only having been fired. A verdict was recorded that deceased committed suicide by shooting himself whilst of unsound mind.

BODY FOUND IN CAM RIVER.

The hody of Henry Charles Hulbert was found in the Cam river, at the back of tho Kaiapoi Woollen Company's premises, at Kaiapoi, yesterday morning. The body appeared to have been in the water for ten days. Hulbert was reported to be missing from his home at Clifton street, Addington, on April 2oth. An inquest on the body was held at Kaiap'oi yesterday beforo Mr T. A. R. Railey (Coroner). Dr. J. H. Crawshaw stntc-d that there were no marks of injury on the hody. Death wns due to drowning. The inquest was adjourned to Christchurch at 10.30 a.m. to-day. (SPFCTAT. TO "THF. PRE'-'-*."'. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 3. William McCormick. a stock agent in tho employ of Mr Newton King, was riding into New Plymouth on hi_ motor bicycle, and when near Tataraimaka ho collided with a trap. He was struck by one of the shafts, and received injuries from which he died within a few minutes. (press association tft.eckam.") " DANNEVTRKE, May 3. At the inquest on Alfred Hubert, found dead by tho roadside at Teohii Hill, Norsewood, on .Saturday, a verdict of accidental death was returned, a rider being added that it was the duty of the local governing body to attend to the number of dangerous places on the road to Norsewood. The Coroner said tho 'wonder wa s that- more accidents did not occur upon this road.
