MEETING OF COMUITTErS,
A meeting of the Liverpool Committee and tbe Equipment Committee was held yesterday afternoon to consider what steps should bo taken in connexion with the suggestion made by Mr J. P. Luke, Mayor of Wellington, for Dominion co operation in tho matter of providing comforts aud extra* for tbe men at present in camp at Trentham, and for thoso who may go into camp later. The Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presided. Tho Mayor referred to tbe telegram he had received from tbe Mayor of Wellington, and said that he wished to ascertain the views of the uleetmij on the question. There was, he said, a big principle involved, and ho did not exactly know what was proposed. He thought that what was intended wa* that the articles supplied on tho previous occasion should bo supplied now.
He strongly objected to money contributed inChristchuich being s-ent to Wellington, ami held that- it should he spent in the city in which it was raised. If sent to Wellington, and they had; to '< appeal to the public again, tiie Christchurch people might very rightly ?ay that, as tho committee had sent money previously to Wellington, they should' go there* for further hind*. That was his own opinion, and he would bo very _ . sorry if they decided to send money to Wellington. He understood that the . , men in camp were well supplied with food, and he did not think it. likely that they were short of vegetables. Ha referred" to tho overlapping that had taken place in connexion with —eequipment of the men who have already loft the Dominion, and said that it seemed impossible to obviate a certain amount of overlapping. .. A general discussion ensued, and the. Mover's views regarding money locally raised being spent in Christehurch _,-■ . were abprbved. One lady remarked that the nrtirli-s. sent from Christchurch on a previous occasion did not go to Canterbury men,.' - .. but wero put in store and issued as ..: wanted.
