THE CATHEDRAL SERVICES. TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRE--'." Sir,—-I was much surprised at Canon Caxrington's appeal for funds to carry on the daily services in the Cathedral, considering how richly endowed is the Church of. England in New Zealand. If I am not inaccurately informed, the Church possesses land, between «St. Heliers and Remuera,' Auckland, worth, on a loiv estimate made by the Premier, £250,000, in addition many residential properties in the suburbs, countless famis, and large tracts of country landi. .If help is /needed, surely it should come from-these endowments. But was any religion ever content with Avhat it had, since,the beginning of the Christian era? No, always hat-in-hand for _r-ore, and poverty; pleaded. ever. The * "your-money-or-no-daily-_erviee" threat is surely but an old, ,very old and familiar, ecclesiastical money mag-net.-7-Yours, etc., ' iT *i«_ l . •'•' ; ALMS.;
