CATHOLIC FEDERATION
CONFERENCE OF DIOCESAN COUNCIL. The annual Conference of the Christchurch Diocesan Council of the Catholic Federation was concluded last evening. At tho opening session, the annual report, which rovealed a considerable amount of successful activity, was, with the balance-sheet, unanimously adopted. Satisfactory reports wero received from all tho branches represented. The officers and mombcre of tho Executive Committee wore re-elected unepposod. Messrs W. Angland (Timaru) and W. Barry (Fairlie) were elected vico-pre-hiucnts of tno Council representing tno country districts. The Very Rev. Dean Hyland (Rangiora), Mr J. R. Hayward (Christchurch), and Mr W. Angland (Timaru), wera elected delegates to the Dominion Council, which opens its session at Wellington on tho 21st inst. Among tho subjects appearing on tho agenda paper and discussed at length wero "The advisability of district conferences at frequent intervals, at centres where o<her parishes could be conveniently grouped, to discuss' items of interest and remit results to the Diosecan Council." "Setting np of Vigd- 1 anco Committees for the purpose of dealing with objectionable picture films literature, etc." "Providing facilities at military camps for the visiting chaplain, and other measures conducive to the social and religious well-being of Catholic men " A motion was unanimously passed expressive of the appreciation felt at the exceedingly able manner in which the speakers had placed the various subjects before the peoplo. It was- decided that future halfyearly, meetings be movable, tho selection of tho n eeting-place to be decided at the annual general meeting.
