SUMNER TRAMS.
•'■ " ■■ XO ___B EDE-OB OJ. *■____ PBESS." Sir, —The committe© has recommended that a new loop be installed on the Sumner lino between th© Heathcoto bridge and th© cutting. Tho Hon. J. Barr raised an objection to th© proposal, aud asked to have th© clause held over. In my opinion rightly so. 'Surely it is time that this pernicious system of placing loop-lines round oouners should b© exposed. Th© members of tho Board are well aware of th© blunden. iv this connexion that existed at tho instalment of this line, and yet quit© recently they repeated their folly by installing another round-the-coiner loop at the cutting. Wo wero led to believe this loop would quicken th© •service, hut it lias not proved so. It is obvious theso hidden loops tend to unnecessary delays. By all means extend the liadley loop, and he_p to make a double track through Woolston with th© idea of eventually extending it to the Ferry bridge. At the present timo tho Sumner eerv.ee is the worst in Ohristohurch. An up-to-dato service ■would greatly increase Sumner's residents, and tno tramway, returns would benefit accordiiigly. In tho Hon. Mr Barr, Sumner has an ablo member of the Board, and I would suggest that a Sumner Tramway League be formed - and a meeting called for tho purpose of supporting jtheir member to bring about some very urgent and necessary reforms, some of which ar© a quicker speed servioo, fewer stops, better lighting, express trams for business , mcv, abolition of antiquated trailers, , and disinfection of seaside cars.— . Yonrs, eta., SUMNER. July Sfch.
