HOLLAND'S CASE.
1 DEPUTATION TO PRIME MINISTER. GOVERNMENT CANNOT INTERFERE. (rRJ_"S ASSOCIATION XS-.EG__-U.) WELLINGTON. July S. A formal plea for the release of Henry Holland, who is now serving a sentence of imprisonment .for {.edition, was mado by Mr Meyer, a member of a deputation representing tho Federated Timber Workers" Union, which waited on tho Premier to-day. Tho speaker reminded Mr Massey that letters had como from all over the country asking for tho roloaso of Holland, and the Federated Timber Workers at its conference had decided to appeal to the Premier. Mr Massey.- in Ins reply, eaid that ! Holland had broken tho law, of tho i country, and bo was tried by a Judge of the Supreme Ckmrl and a jury composed of.'lus feUow-countrym-n. "I can express no .opinion,'- added . the Premier, "as to the severity of the sentence or otherwise-. It would be a very serious matter tt the Government or Parliament wero to interfere -with the decisions of the Court. If \ committed an offence I should have to submit' aa well as anybody eke, and take the consequences. - I < doa t see my way, and the Government does not see its wav, to make any recommendation with regard to .the remission of Holland* sentence."
