Senor Brannay.

The Mexican situation furnished the <;jiief topic of burlesquo on the men of tho moment at the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington (says a correspondent of a Tiondon paper). During a lull a member of the club rushed in flourishing a newspaper announcing ''Grave crisis in .American affairs; United States' Mexicanised dictator seizes tho reins of government." Tho dictator was Sefior Bryanna. (representing the Secretary of State), who marched in leading a Mexican army clad in gaudy and bedraggled garments. The army appeared fourteen times, each time with a new dictator. Senor Bryanna, on enquiring what his salary would bo, was told that it would be any sum he chose to name. "Well, whatever it is I can't live on it," Sefior Bryanna answered. Then.. Sofior Champero Clarkista (the Speaker) daehed into the room, leading tho army which he had cajoled from Senor Bryanna. "I am undone," shouted Sehor Clarkista. who ordered his army to shoot Sefior Bryanna, but decided to inflict moro condign punishment by ordering his men to cut Senor Bryjinna's vocal chords. Later the army was led in by Sefior "Williamo. Also Randolph Hearsta (the newspaper proprietor), who summarily shoved Senor Clarkista aside and won support by promising to exploit everybody in his newspapers. He demanded the Presidency on the ground of "the millionaires* I own in Mexico and whom I want the TJnitod States to protect"— an allusion to Mr Hearst's mining interest in Mexico.
