The Navtia arrived from Lyttelton at 9 a.m. The waterside workers decided not to work her, pending receipt of instructions from tho federation of Labour. The steamer has 40 or 50 tons of sugar and cement on board. The Union Steam Ship Company is not taking any definite steps at present. Later. Work at tho waterside was practically brought to a standstill this evening, when the watersiders met, and after a lengthy discussion, resolved: — "That we cease work until the disputes at Huntly and Wellington are satisfactorily settled." The Navua is hung up in port. Tho Flora sailed for Greymouth, and is expected to return to Westport tomorrow to load for Dunedin. It is understood that the Railway 'Department will call on the railway watersiders to turn to on the Navua in the morning. It is not known whether any attempt will be made to employ free labour. There are some 10,000 tons of coal available for shipment. All the trucks and bins are full, and unless some relief is immediately afforded, the mines will have to cease work.
