MALVERN.
The weather becamo very boisterous on Friday evening, when the sou-west gale freshened up again. Tho temperature, which had beeu fairly low on Thursday, fell still lower and during the night rain, sleet 'and snow tell in smart showers. Those conditions prevailed throughout Saturday, but towards evening there were indications that tho storm had about spent itself. For tho twenty-four hours up to 4 p.m. on Saturday, .58in of rain was registered at Darfield. making a total of 2.49 inches since Wednesday evening. Another very hcavv coating of snow fell on the ranges," and the plains were covered from tho hills as far down as Racecourse Hill, but this was dissipated by subsequent showers of rain.
