KUMARA, FROM MONTREAL.

The New Zealand. Shipping _ Company's chartered steamer Kumara, which is duo here this week from Montreal, had 70CO tons of general cargo on board when she left the Canadian port. The trado botwecn the big Dominion and Australia and New Zealand is increasing with the departure of each successive steamer. Much more cargo was offering for the Kumara, but it had to be shut out, to be loaded by the following steamer. The Kumara's cargo included 1503 tons of iron rails for Sydney, and before discharging at Melbourne the vessel had under tho hatches the largest consignment of news printing paper yet brought from Canada to Australia and New Zealand. Several thousand reels wero landed at Mo!----l.-ourno and Sydney, while several thousand wero for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Kumara ia due at Wellington to-day, and will arrive at Lyttelton to-morrow or on Saturday. The vessel, which sailed from Montreal on October 19th, encountered some very bad weather on the passage out. On the run through the Southern Ocean somo very heavy seaa broke on board, and as a result th 3 deck cabins,

etc., sustained con.-kk-rable damage. On her passage ironi Montreal to Melbourne, the Kuinant avern!rf<l Hi knots, a speed of 12i knots from Sydney to .\uckland.
