Professor C. Coleridge Farr, of Christchurch, returned from Australia by the Manuka yesterday.
Mr Stuart Seddon, who has been through a course of study in England and France as an architect, is returning to New Zealand this month. He will probably settle in Wellington.
Referring to the appointment of Colonel Edward Heard, of tho Northumberland' Fusiliers as Chief of the General Staff of the New Zealand Defences, in (succession to Colonel Robin, Loudon "Truth" says:—"Though undecorated. Colonel Heard is an up-to-date Staff College officer, having been both instructor and professor of the Camberley establishment. He was with his regiment in the Hazara campaign of ISyS, and served as intelligence officer at Cape Colony during the Boer war. (jetting mentioned in despatches for his services."
The Hon. K. Mitchelson, of Auckland, who is now recovering from a protracted and severe illness, has decided to make a tour of Great Britain and the Continent, extending over a period of nine months. Mr Mitchclson will leave Auckland on March 14th.
Constable Hampton, of Surooer, has been granted five weeks' leave of nb-.-onco, and leaves to-night, with his wife and children, for the North Island. In tho meantime Constable Gilligan, of Christchurch, will be stationed at Sumner.
