The conditions cauid noi hare been more suitable for the rowing event* than they were yesterday. The fierce heat of the. 6 un was hidden by a panoply of cloud, and there tvas but the slightest suspicion of a breeze to ruffle tho smooth surface- of the water. The racing was extremely interesting and well contested, but was marred by a number

of disqualifications through crews rounding ,the wrong buoy. Union agaiu" secured the majority « wins though they were am extremely close by the youthful Sumner Club, and. Avon ale-a performed extrenielv well. Akaroa were but a shadow of their" former greatness, ana Canterbury were principally conspicuous by coming in* an easy last on nearly every occasion. At tho end of the raile Sumner secured the lead, and, mainj turning their advantage, defeated Union by two lengths. Sumner, however, were disqualified for lurninj; a buoy on tho wrong side. Akuroa were unfortunate. When lying in a very favourable position they wero fouled by tho a.s.
