FATHER COGNET.
(γ-mss association Telegbam.) WELLINGTON. December 21. Father Cognet, parish priest at Otaki, died hero this morning, aged fifty-five. Ho canw> to tho Dominion '26 years ago from Fiance, and was stationed in Otaki and Taranaki. Of lato his health had been unsatisfactory, and tho end was not unexpected. Mr James Hooker,-of Wainui, die<l on Sunday. Ho had been ailing for some three years past. Ho. was suffering from heart failure, and tho dentil of his son a ft»w months ago was a l«!ow to him. Mr Hooker was-a Peninsula resident of sotno twenty-five years standing, and hud always resided at Wainui.
