OAMARU.

(press association telegram .)

OAMARU, July 14. Exceeding slowness characterised the grain market during the week, and there is no speculation. Merchants aro unwilling to buy and growers arc unwilling to sell at present prices. Two fairly substantial lines of Velvet were bought at 3s 7d and 3s G.d net, at country stations, but these prices were slightly above present quotations. Other lines were sold at slightly below these quotations. Oats are similarly lifeless, and A grade Gartons have been sold at ls ll.d and 2s, both net at.country stations; and B grade at ls lOd and. Is lid, less conimision, at country stations. The loading of a steamer for Sydney and the demand there has infused now life into the potato market, and starting at £-1 10s at tho beginning of the wick,.prices went to £o at the end, net to grower. Another steamer is expected about a fortnight hence, but cable advices report a slackening of tho Sydney market, and thc demand has eased a little. Potatoes aro still offering from the country, and these will probably find a market in Australia.
