SHIPPING DELAYED.

A dense fog in Pegasus Bay delayed tho ferry 6teamcr Maori for about an hour on Saturday morning. She did not connect with the first express for Dunedin, but considering the exceptionally thick fog, Captain Aldwell did very well in getting into port so early. The fog was the first bad one which has been experienced this winter, and it commenced to clear in tho outer harbour shortly after tho arrival of the Maori.

Outside the Heads, however, the fog remained as thick as ever, and delayed the Huddnrt-Parker steamer Victoria from Wellington. It crept up tho'harbour during Saturday evening, and after dark the port was shrouded in dense mist. The Maori, Victoria; and other steamers leaving port, kept Up a continuous din with tho blowing of their whistles. The small, launch Canterbury, which went down to Port Levy in the afternoon, did net gethack to Lyttelton until midnight, having been delayed at tho Heads by the! fog. . Tbo fog banks cleared yesterday morning, and steamers had no difficulty in making Lyttelton, Heads. The Mokoia met the fog shortly after clearing Otago Heads, and bad to come tip tho coast at reduced speed. ' After passing Akaroa Heads early yesterday morning tho weather cleared. The Kittawa was delayed by the fog on the run from Timaru to Lyttelton, but the Mararoa, from Wellington, had a fairly clear passage, and arrived in port before noon- - ,
