ELLESMERE SUB-UNION. At a meeting of the Ellesmere Rugby Sub-Union, held at Leeston on Friday, it was decided to have a second round in -the Third Grade competition. Owing to the likelihood of the College and Irwell teams having to play off for the Senior Shield, it was .decided that the sevenra-side tournament should not take placo until the Saturday after,the conclusion of the. Senior competition. In the event of Irwell and College ■ being even, it was agreed that the play-off should take place next Saturday, and the seven-a-side tournament on the following Saturday, and to get, a referee from Christchurch for the - former match. The-secretary fras instructed to write to the Ashburton, Canterbury, and Peninsula Unions in reference to the dates.of representative matches.

It is understood that the senior competition, under the Canterbury Rurjby Union, has been closed, and that ""-a. trial game will bo played next Saturday. A number of tho first-grade fifteens will be sent to play different country clubs on Saturday next and the following week, so that none of tho players need be short of practice. The junior competition will, however, be played out, and this proceeding will give the junior selectors a better chance of picking the representative team.
