KAIAPOI.

j A concert given by lady friends in I aid of the re-roofing fund of the Kaia- | poi Methodist school, held on Friday, . was well attended. Tho first part in- ! eluded a camp scene in which Misses | Parnham, Rule, Tregarthen, Johnson, ! with Mrs Harrison and others, took part in recitations, songs and violin | solos. In tho interlude an amusing ■ drama was put on. In tho second part an "At Home," Mrs Burrows, G. H. Oram, J. Wylie, Hindle, and other •ladies gave songs. Tho Misses A'Court contributed a violin and piano duot. Tho orchestral pieces, the glees, and a trio, were much appreciated, i On Friday evening a concert programme at Kaiapoi, instead of the line "carriages may be ordered at 10 p.m.," read "arooplancs and boats at 10 o'clock." On leaving the hall thc audience found that there was no need for the latter reflection upon tho municipal authorities, as the streets were free from water; the embankments had pre- , vented them being flooded, and the river had fallen in height about 3ft. A meeting of the Farm Labourers' Union was called for Friday evening at the Orange Hall, but in consequence of Mr J. Kennedy being unablo to reach Kaiapoi from Hororata, it was not held.
