APPEAL COURT.

(PEE 33 ASSOCIATION TEW.BAM.) WELLINGTON, July 12. Tho Appeal Court considered the case of Rex v. Mikkiesen. The defendant had made application to tho Supreme Court for a writ of habeas corpus directed to his divorced wife, with tho object of obtaining from her the custody and possession of their child. Mr Justice Edwards refused the application. On February 22nd, defendant, it is alleged, unlawfully took away the child from its mother. The question for the Court's decision was whether the conviction at the June sittings in Auckland, on tho direction of Mr Justico Sim, was right in. law. The Solicitor-General appeared for the Crown, and Mr Singer for the prisoner. At tho conclusion of Mr Singers argument the Court intimated that they did not wish to hear the SolicitorGeneral on behalf of the Crown. The Court unanimously decided that tho Judge's mling- was right in law, and affirmed tho conviction. Tho Court then heard the case of Rex v. Weston. Tho question raised was the existence or extent of corroboration of tho evidence of two main witnesses for the Crown. Prisoner was convicted for performing an. illegal operation on one of the said witnesses at tho request of the other main witnesses. Mr W. H. D. Bell appeared for the prisoner, and Solicitor-General for tho Crown. Tho Court unanimously affirmed tho conviction. The Court then adjourned till Mon- ] day.
