WHILE recognising the well known fact that New Zealand i 3 a Sober Country, we are surprised that such a keen observer as Mr H. B. Irviug , does pot appear to havo grasped tho reason why it is co. A little cloeer study of tho subject would possibly havo given him tho cue. It is a remarkable fact that all countries ■whero tho people are frrcat drinkers of Tea aro invariably noted for their Temperance. The French and Germans are poor Tea drinkers, but are largo consumers of Wine 3 and Beer. China is a great Tea-drinking Country, and tho people are famed for their sobriety. Australia and Now Zealand are per head of population the greatest Tea drinkers in the world, and this wo claim to bo the main reason why they are amongst the most Sober.
