GISBORNE ITEMS.
(sririAi. to "the rnxss") GIS BORNE, March 14. Tti granting an application to the .Supreme Court for admission as a solicitor to-day, his Honour the Chief Justice expressed the hope that the applicant would pursue his studies to qualify for a banister, and not do, as some people did, enter by the back door. The pillaging of oversea cargo still goes on. A Gisborne merchant reports that out of a box of 45 blouses imported from London, only eight were left, and other boxes were also tampered with. Other importers of drapery have also found articles to be missing, the cases in each instance having been closed up again after the goods had been stolen. The thefts apparently occur before the vessels reach New Zealand. Mr E. A. Shrimpton, telegraphic engineer for this district, in conversation with a reporter, said that the installation of the "wireless" station at Gisborne would be taken in hand as soon as the instruments are available. There is a great demand for the instruments, and consequently the installations at various places have been delayed. Mr Shrimpton added that it had "been decided not to proceed with the proposed station at New Plymouth. Personally speaking, he did not see the necessity for a station at.Gisborue, as with highpower stations at Awanui and Bluff, and the station at Wellington. Gisborne would not bo likely to get any message which might have been missed at the places mentioned.
