ROAD BOARDS.
EANGIORA. The Rangiora Board met oa March Bth. Present —Messrs F. Horrell (Chairman), G. Dalziel, A. Mclntosh, and C. Loich. An opinion was received from the New Zealand Counties' Association's solicitor that the Board was not liable to provide culverts under roads, and floodgates within the drainago area. The Clerk was instructed to forward a copy of tho opinion to the River Board. A letter was received from the Public "Works Department urging upon the Board tho necessity of forwarding, as early as possible, all claims for works being carried out with tho assistance of Government grants. Tho Clerk reported that ho had recommended that the election of members for the new County Council be held on April 23rd. The Chairman, aud Mr Dalziel were appointed delegates to the Canal Conference. Further complaints, with a threat of legal proceedings concerning the condition of Taraliaki Creek was received, and the Clerk was instructed to giv c Mr S. Gibbs peremptory notice to clean out the creek. Mr Jas. McGrath wrote objecting to the Board raising No. 1 Drain road, while the river on the south side of the bridge was 3 feet lower than the No. 1 Drain road letter received. The Surveyor was instructed to put in concrete pipes across the road near the Coronation Hall at Southbrook, and also to have McKeuzie's road metalled. The Clerk reported that the amount of rates outstanding was £44, and he was instructed to take legal -proceedings to recover them. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Friday, March 29th. to wind up the affairs of the Board in view of the district being merged into a county.
