BANKRUPTCIES IN CANTERBURY.
LAST YEAR'S RECORDS
In tho Canterbury bankruptcy district, which includes Ashburton and Timaru, during the year 1911 there wero 42 netitions by debtors; the assets, as per filed statements (exclusive of amounts secured to creditors), totalled £7457; tho amount secured to ! creditors totalled £11,185; the liabilities fas per filed statements), totalled £30,254; tho assets realised by the Official Assignee totalled £83-3; tho amount of debts proved was £22,789, and the amount paid in dividends totalled £1665. > In Christchurch there were 23 debtors' petitions, one adjudication on creditors' petition, and ono company in liquidation; eleven orders for immediate discharge were made, and one order was suspended. The total assets (excluding amounts secured to creditors) amounted to £3-46; amount secured to creditors £3871: liabilities (excluding amounts secured to creditors) £13,793; amount of assets realised by assignee £6812; amount of debts proved £12,779; amount paid in dividends £1243. Nino petitions by debtors wore dealt with in regard to Ashburton and vicinity, and three orders for immediate discharge wero made. Tho assets totalled £1408; amount secured to creditors £1139; liabilities, £2448; amount realised by assignee £542; amount of debts proved £2270: amount of dividends £255. In Timaru and vicinity there wero ten petitions by two by creditors, five orders for immediate discharge wove made, and ono was suspended. The assets totalled £2403; amount secured to creditors £6174; liabilities £14,012; : amount •of assets realised £1003; amount of debts proved, £7739; and amount paid in dividends £166. In Christchurch there was one bank- ' ruptcy for under £50; in Christchurch |6, Ashburton 2, .and Timaru 4 for amounts between £50 and £100; in Christchurch 5, Ashburton .4. and Timaru 1 for between £100 and £250: in Christchurch 6, Ashburton 2, and Timaru 1 for between £250 and £500; In Christchurch 2, Ashburton 1, Timaru 3 for between £500 and £1000: in Christchurch 1 between £1000 and £2000; in Christchurch and Timaru one each between £2000 and £5000; in Christchurch 2, and in Timaru 1, for £-5000 upwards.
