THE ETHEL IRVING COMPANY.
Mr J. C. Williamson has plea&ure in announcing that after much negotiation he has completed arrangements, whereby theatre-goers in, the four centres of the Dominion will have the opportunity of seeing one of England's greatest actresses, Miss Ethel Irving, m two of her-most notable characters namely "Lady Frederick" in Somerset Maughan's high-class comedy bearing that title, and Stella Ballantyne in A. E. W. Mason's compelling play "The Witness for the Defence. " Lady Frederick " will commence the season on Monday February 19th, and will be withdrawn after fiv e performances. " The Witness for the Dofence " will bo presented for tho last threo nights of tho season. Miss Irving is accompanied by her complete London Company, all of whom occupy most_ prominent position on the English stage. By reason of Miss Irving's meteor-like strides into the front ranks of her profession, possibly her great fame in London has not preceded her to New Zealand, so it will not-_ come amiss to quote English critics on tho art of Miss ■ Irving. The London "Daily Express," prior to Miss Irving's departure from England, said: ''One of the greatest living actresses is leaving us-for a little while, but our loss is Australia's gain. We long for her return." Special box office arrangements will obtain for this important season, the plan will open .at lUilner and Thompson's on Thursday next, at 8 a.m., and individual bookings will be strictly limited to ten seats.
