FRUIT GARDEN.
Tho wot weather lias done some harm to tho fruit crops, especially tho plunw, which have split, and'will bo useless for , market purposes. Apples and pears have benefited by the humidity, and ■will developb to a great size this season. Fruit growers who have . sprayed with red oil report that-this insecticide has proved a success. On© orchard vitrited during the- week is a splendi»l object lesion as to the merits of tho rod oil. For-years past tho, apple and plum trees in this garden Jaavo been reduced in vitality, owinp to the yearly attacl: of red spider, and thofruit was reduced in size and quality in consequence. Thii season, however, as a result'of systematic 'spraying- with red-oil 1 -in early spring, the'orchard is a picture of cleanness and vigorous health. .Not only is the grotvth clean and.strong growing, but tho - fruit* also' is 3 -much better sample than any previously grown. The red oil is strongly recommended by Mr Courtier, the Government Orchard Inspector, wlio reportfrthat wherever ifc has been ufced tho very' best results havo followed.
