THE STYX CROSSING.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS."

Sir.—Aβ Engineer of the Northern Railway, from Addington to tho river Ashley, I made provision for and erect-, cd. gates at the crossing of tho North roa<l at tho Styx, which I saw necessary for the protection =of the public using the road. The gates-were used for somo time, but were subsequently removed. I presume as a matter of economy to save the cost of a gatekeeper. Had they been allowed to remain two lives would have been saved. —Yours, etc.- . G. THORNTON. \ SLate M. lustn. C.E., London.
