(Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) INSOBRIETY. A male first offender for insobriety was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. BY-LAW BREACHES. Mercer Ward, for cycling on the footpath at Belfast, was convicted and ordered to "pay costs, 7s. CHARGE'OP ASSAULT. Charles Dunn was charged by William Green (Mr Gresson) with assault. Defendant alleged that ho merely put his hand out, and informant jumped up in a temper, and hit his face against it. George Fraser, alias Ryan, and George Foster Brown, were committed to the ■ Supreme Court for trial on two charges of theft from the person. George Fraser was committed for trial on a similar charge.

ASHBURTON. (Before "Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) Henry Thompson was ordered to pay 10s and costs for riding a bicycle at night without a light. Matthew Findlay Patterson (Mr Buchanan) was charged with illegally selling liquor, and with keeping liquor for sale. After hearing evidence the charges were dismissed. Judgment by default was given in the following cases:— J. Hibbs (Mr Acland) v. J. Chalmers, £10: J. Leonard (Mr Buchanan) v. F. Colville. £3 10s; D. J. Mcj\.enzie v. \v. Jamicson, £2 10s 4d. \

Crum Brothers and Dvherberg (Mr Orbell) claimed from W. H. Collins (Mr Purnell) £50 on a contract for building the foundations and chimneys of a house. Evidence having been taken, decision was reserved.
