NOTES.

The Dunedin "Star" says:—An outstanding feature of tho new Parliament is the largo number of members pledged to support the totalisator, and if Mr Ell renews his perennial attack on. tho "legalised gambling machine," he is likely to receive less encouragement than on any previous occasion. Among tho new members who aro strongly in favour of the machine aro Messrs Geo. Hunter, It. F. Bollard, C. K. Wilson, H. M. Campbell, W. J. Dickie, A. Harris, J. A. Young, W. H. D. Bell, J. S. Dickson, H. Atmore, G. Sykes, E. P. Lee. F. H. Smith, J, H. Escott, J. H. Bradney, and Dr. Newman. Sir Joseph Ward, who formerly opposed the totalisator, has declared his intention to stand by it in future. Mr Fisher is now a pledged supporter of the machine, and Mr Statham told his Green Island meeting, when questioned on tho subject, that he did not favour its abolition. The members of the last Parliament who were most pronounced in their opposition to the Racing Commission's report —Messrs Jennings, Greenslade, and Ross —are among the "slain," and are replaced by staunch friends of tho "Toto.'' Acceptances for the Greymoutb T.C.s Summer Meeting close this evening, i Acceptances for the Wyndham R.C.s AnhuatSVleeting closo this evening. Acceptances for the North Otago J.C.'6 Spring Meeting close this evening. ..,_
