Renter reprrts that gunboats supported General Yin-chang's first army, which captured two Republican positions and advanced within 500 yards of tho enemy's strong entrenchments, westward of the Han-kau racecourse. Operations wore then temporarily suspended, after thirty Republican guns had been captured. Tho Imperialists had three officers and 37 men killed, and 150 wounded. The Republicans sustained 400 casualties, including a commander of artillery.
Tlio Republicans bolow Wu-chang shelled tho Imperialist gunboats. The latter's firo was slow and inaccurate.
Mutinies havo broken out at Nganking and Tai-yuan-fu.
