QUESTION OF ADMINISTRATION.

Speaking in the House this evening, Mr Arnold praised the administration of the Police Department under Mr Waldegrave, but he thought the time had oome when the Government should bring out from Home an inspector to advise Mr Waldegravo. The Hon. Mi- Millar said the time would no doubt come when they would have to import a trst-claee man from Home to control the police foroe. It would be difficult to get a man out or the present force to give satisfaction to all. At a later day it would be necessary to "et a man of wide experience to control the force. Mr Ma&sey said that if it would be v , possible to pick a man like Mr Tunbridge, it would be a good thing to do so. Men of that stamp and. calibre could not, however, be picked up every day. They had already had on© man from Home, who had not been altogether a success. Before they got a man from Home they should look into the claims of their own men. There ""■ere pot many who were capable of administering ench a department, but • C c • t ° ink oi on e man who would be hard to beat; he referred to Inspector Cullen, of Auckland. They might import 20 men and not, get one so good. " The Hon.
