Mr Bates's summitry and weather forecast, i. sited at Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, were its follows: —

Hc*vy rain foil in the far north during Ihursdav night. Showery weather has prevailed to-day on the E_st Coast of the North Island, and the weather has been cloudy and una.tiled at times el_ewhe-e. There has been littlo movement of the barometer. Moderate to strong easterly and south-easterly winds have predominated. Present indications are for a falling barometer in Ihe southern district* with increasing northerly and ea.teriv winds. Littlo movement and moderate to strong easterly winds are probable in the northernmost districts. Un. ettled and cloudy weather ie to bo expected at times generally, and showery in parts. Low pressure is due" to pass in the south on or about Snndav morning.
