. 9 ■ CRIMINAL SITTINGS.;.' ; (Before his Honour Mr Justice Denniston.) Samuel Wilson, a young man, who had pleaded guilty in the lower- Court to breaking and entering, Came ui> for sentence. Prisoner stated that at tno time of the crime he had just been released from prison. In reply to his Honour, Mr Stringer, XC, Crown prosecutor, said the pol jce i" e P° rt did not regard prisoner ns a man of criminal habits, but that when he got drink iv him he did theso things. His Honour said it was impossible for him to treat prisoner as a first offender, because the experience of the past had proved that when the prisoner got under the influence of liquor he gavo way to serious tempta-, tion. The prisoner would be sent to a reformatory prison for twelve months, and if ho satisfied the authorities ! there that ho was a fit subject- for discharge he would be discharged. . Kenneth Armstrong, who had pleaded guilty in the lower Court to false prei tences, also cime up for sentence, and Mr H. Goodman, who appeared for him, ! asked for nrobation. Mr Stringer said the facts were that prisoner had obi tamed the loan of a bicyclo in 6hristchurch for an hour, and then rbde to Chertscy, and obtained a motor-cycle, giving the bicycle in part payment. He considered it was a reasonable case for probation. His Honour, after severely lecturing prisoner, and warning him ,not to trespass again, said he would take a cliaritablc view of his conduct, and admit him to probation for twelve months, prisoner to pay £7 10s, being £2 10s for each of the bicycles, nnd £2 10s part of the costs of the action, the money to be paid off in monthly instalments. • , ■
