CANTERBURY COLLEGE v MARIST BROS.
Tbe meeting of these two teams at tho Show Grounds resulted, after a fine open game, in a win for College by 19 points to 5. Canterbury College kicked off, play settling near the centre. From a penalty Chrystall had an unsuccessful shot at goal, forcing Marists. On changing ends, College worked down, Morris relieving. A passing rush took the ball to the Mariets' line, whoro tho forwards relieved. A fine piece of passing between Chrystal) and Colthart ended in the first-named scoring, the kick being unsuccessful. College 3. Marists 0. A forward rush led by Grace enabled Ferguson to score a second try, Chrysall converting. Collego 8. Marists 0. Play remained near half-way until half-time was called.
On resuming, Colthart made a fine run through thc team, but the Marists' forwards broke away, and carried play to tho Maroons' twenty-five. College returned, and from a nice passing rush Chrystall again scored, tho kick failing. College 11, Marists 0. From a rush down tho field, Morris scored Marists' first try, Mahoney converting. College 11, Marists 5. College set up an attack with a series of pasaing rushes. From a penalty, the ball rebounded, and Parr, following up fast, got over between the posts, Johnson converting. College 16, Marists 5. The third quarter ended with Marists attacking. Livingston set his backs going at halfway, and good runs by Chrystall and Colthart took play to the Greens' lino. A fine passing rush ended in Blank getting round behind the posts, the kick failing. College 19, Marists 5. Play continued in the Greens' territory until the whistle blew. Collego thus won by 19 points <two goals and three tries) to 5 (one goal). Mr R. Cockayne was -referee.
