MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. One first offender, a male, for drunkenness, was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. OFFENDING CYCLISTS. Henry Meadows, for cycling at night without a light, was faned 10s and costs. David Edgeworth and Henry James, for cycling without bells, wero each lined 5s and costs. AIA.OWI.VCi CATTLE TO WANDER. Alfred James Wright, for allowing cattle to wander, was lined 5s and costs. William Henry (Mr Johnston) was charged with allowing twelve head of cattle to wander. Mr Johnston said that there had boon no negligence on the part of defendant. The cattle- had broken through a perfectly sound fence. After defendant had given evidence, the charge was dismissed. DRIVING TOO FAST. Francis Davy, for driving too fast over a street crossing, was fined os and costs. AN ACCIDENT. Vivian Rhodes (Mr "Weddo) was charged that he drove a motor-car over the Kiccarton railway crossing when a train was approaching. Mr Wedde detailed the circumstances, stating that the course taken by defendant had been the only ono xiossiblo. Defendant was convicted and discharged. AFTER. THE RACES. Samuel Duffy (Mr Johnston) nnd Robert Forbes (Mr Malley) wero charged with behaving in an offensive manner on a train while returning from the Rangiora races. Counsel for the prisoners detailed a squabble in a .second-class carriage, several windows being broken and paid for. They laid all the blame on a third man, who escaped. Forbes had come into the trouble only at the end. Duffy was fined 20s and Forbes 10s, with costs in each case. MAINTENANCE. In the case of Snrah Badland (Mr Malley) against Charles Badland (Mr Alpers), a wife's claim for ma.intorance for herself and three children, an order for the payment of 24s weekly was made, the order to be registered against tho property of defendant. A SERIOUS CHARGE. George. Henry Carlyle (Mr Leathern) was charged with committing incest with his daughter. Publication of evidence was forbidden. Accused, wiio pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence, was committed for trial. THEFT. Thomas James Sutton (Mr E. T. Haynes) was charged, on tho information of the police, with the theft of timber valued at 7s 6d, the property of H. B. Jones and Son, at Bickerton. Evidence was given by H. B. Jones, Constable Roberts, the daughter of accused, and accused himself. Accused was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. There were two other charges against Sutton, but one was withdrawn by leave of the Court,, and tho other was not proceeded with. DESERTERS. William Sobbess and William Push, firemen who had deserted from the steamer Harpagus, were ordered to be put on board the vessel at Port Chalsners.
