WAIPARA RIVER BRIDGE.

A meeting of some of the members of the various local bodies interested in the construction of a traffic bridge over tho Waipara riyer on the main North I road, was held at Amberley on Monday. There wore present:'—Mr 0. P. Clothier (chairman of the Waipara County Council), Mr D. D. Macfarlane (chairman of the Amuri County Council), Mr Hales (chairman of tho Kowai Road Board), Mr Burland (chairman of the Amberley Town Board), and Messrs Todd, Jones, Gibb, Crampton, McLean, Hodson, Lewton, and others representing the districts interested. Mr Clothier was voted to tho chair. He explained that the meeting was called for the purpose of considering Mr Marchant'B report on the proposed bridge; also whether the bridge should be built of reinforced concrete or wood, and tho allocation of the cost of tho construction of same. Tho chairman then read 'Mr Marchant's report on a , timber bridge to cost £4925, and a reinforced concrete bridge to cost £6300. The various merits of these were discussed, and eventually a vote was taken, which resulted in favour of a timber bridge, the cost not to exceed £4000, and the plan of the bridge, and carrs'ing out of the work to be under- , taken by the surveyors to the Waipara County Council and the Kowai Road Board conjointly. ] The costs were allocated as under, the representatives of the Amuri and Waipara Counties reserving the right to submit their share of the allocation to their respective Councils before , finally consenting to them: — ! £ !
