MR LONG AND MR LYTTELTON.

Mr Walter Long, speaking at Southhampton, said that Unionists were resolved, besides reforming the House of Lords, to .bring it in closer touch with the people, to introduce the referendum principle, with such amendments and extension as would permanently secure tho people's unalienable right of control over legislation whereby they were governed.
Mr Lyttelton,* speaking at Warwick, declared that it was impossible to grant an independent parliament to Ireland, which, w;hilo contributing seven millions to tho Imperial revenue, drew nearly ten millions from it. Ireland could, with Homo Rule, protect herself against Britain's goods.
